Inter-Schools Equestrian Competition
Before July 2005, there was no common set of rules and no programme coordination. Equestrian NSW, which is the governing body for equestrian sport throughout NSW, is now able to coordinate the organisation of competition and training for school students with a view to providing a competition and training pathway from learning to ride through to competing at the highest level in any of its sporting disciplines.
Each discipline in interschool competition is run under the Equestrian Australia rules for that discipline. These in turn reflect the standards and requirement of the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI).
The Equestrian NSW Inter-Schools Competition committee has been established to provide advice, publicity and support for the management of inter-school events.
Affiliated schools run competitions under the Rules of the Equestrian Australia. They have provided proof of public liability insurance cover to Equestrian NSW or have availed themselves of the Association's insurance cover. The primary objective of Equestrian NSW is the development of horse sports. This includes assistance to affiliated clubs/schools, training and development of participants. Part of the assistance is the negotiation of group insurance policies that are affordable and allow competition to take place.
They have access to accredited judges, technical personnel and NCAS accredited equestrian coaches and may use the intellectual property of Equestrian NSW (such as rules, dressage tests). They receive assistance in programming and administration of competitions, have their event posted on the Equestrian NSW calender of events and post event round up's are advertised in the Equestrian NSW magazine Equest News.
Students can become Junior members of Equestrian NSW. This membership provides 365 days a year, 24 hour accident insurance while the member is engaged in horse activities. Membership will be a requirement for any rider to attend an Equestrian NSW run training camp, state or national championships.
By competing in inter-school events at Equestrian NSW affiliated schools, parents and teachers alike can be assured that the school is adequately insured, has approved safety practices in place and has the expertise guidance of the Equestrian NSW Interschool committee.
