FEI Award winners Wade and Formosa come together at WEG

Australia’s two recipients of the FEI’s Against All Odds Award came together today at the World Equestrian Games 2014.

2011 award recipient Meg Wade and 2013 winner Joann Formosa, both giants of their respective sports, met in the Australian Para-Equestrian team stables where Meg offered some encouraging words to Formosa ahead of the grade Ib individual championship.

"Do the best you can and have fun. You have to enjoy what you’re doing and whatever happens, happens," she said.

The World Equestrian Games are familiar territory for Meg, she is a three time representative and also has a WEG bronze medal which she won in the team’s endurance event.

In 2009 she fell from a horse which left her with a traumatic brain injury, but her determination and desire to overcome the adversity saw her return to the saddle in late 2010.

“You’ve got to keep doing things. Just because something goes wrong doesn’t mean you stop.”

Paralmypic gold medallist Formosa was pleased to have Wade in her corner.

“It’s nice to have the support of someone who has been through so much.

“Meg’s got passion and drive and I love that.”

This is only the second ocassion that Para-Equestrian has been contested at the World Equestrian Games.

“It’s great to be able to compete alongside all the other disciplines, doors are opening,” said Formosa.

Para-Equestrian competition continues today and runs through until Friday.
