Jumping NSW Spring Update

NSW Riders Shine at the Australian Jumping Championships

by Jumping NSW

New South Wales riders once again proved their class at the 2025 Australian Jumping Championships, held recently in Victoria. Despite at times challenging weather conditions, our competitors delivered outstanding performances across all levels of the sport — from seasoned senior riders to our talented young athletes — showcasing the depth of skill, dedication, and horsemanship that continues to define NSW jumping.

Leading the charge was Tom McDermott, who secured the Senior Australian Jumping Championship title riding Oaks Ventriloquist. This impressive victory marks Tom’s fourth national title, adding to his previous wins in 2012, 2019, and 2022. His consistent excellence at the top level of the sport is a testament to his talent and ability to perform under pressure and deliver clear, polished rounds. This has cemented his reputation as one of Australia’s most accomplished show jumpers.

Adding to NSW’s success story, Charlie Magnier achieved a remarkable double victory — taking out both the Junior Title on Ogano and the Young Rider Title aboard Notre Dame De Bourguignon. Winning two national titles in one championship is no small feat, and Charlie’s results speak volumes about his composure, focus, and connection with his horses. His achievements are an inspiring example of the strength of NSW’s next generation of jumping talent.

Beyond these headline results, many other NSW combinations delivered strong performances across multiple divisions. From young horse classes through to open sections, our riders showcased professionalism, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout the week — even as the weather tested horses, riders, and organisers alike. Congratulations to all competitors, owners, grooms, and supporters who represented New South Wales with pride. Your efforts continue to elevate the standard of jumping in our state and inspire the next wave of riders coming through the ranks.

Exciting Events Ahead: NSW Titles and the Summer Classic World Cup

As the competition year continues, attention now turns to an exciting series of upcoming events here in New South Wales.

First up, the NSW State Titles will run the weekend before the Summer Classic, hosted by the Sydney Showjumping Club at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC). This event promises a full program catering to a range of levels, from junior riders and amateur competitors through to the open ranks. The program is available via Global Entries Online, and entries open on 17 November. With excellent facilities and strong entries anticipated, it’s sure to be a highlight of the state calendar.

Following on directly after will be one of the most anticipated fixtures of the year — the Sydney Summer Classic CSI-W, held from 11 to 14 December at SIEC. The Summer Classic is always a standout event, attracting top riders from across the country to compete at the highest level of Australian show jumping. Spectators can look forward to world-class jumping action, including the thrilling World Cup Qualifier, where riders will vie for valuable points toward the 2025 Australian World Cup League. It’s a fantastic opportunity to witness the best horses and riders in the country in action — a true celebration of our sport.

For those interested in supporting the event, sponsorship opportunities are still available. Fun and Friendship at NNWSJC’s Members Weekend at AELEC

As well as a very successful February event and World Cup competition in August the  North and North West Show Jumping Club (NNWSJC) wrapped up its 2025 season in style with a Fun Members Weekend at AELEC, bringing together riders, horses, and supporters for two days of sport, laughter, and community spirit.

The event was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of another successful year. Sunday’s activities featured some truly creative fancy dress outfits, plenty of smiles, and a fantastic atmosphere both in and out of the arena. Riders and horses alike embraced the fun spirit of the weekend, and it was heartening to see so much encouragement, teamwork, and enjoyment throughout.

It was inspiring to see members pitch in and assist with jobs across the weekend to help things run smoothly — a true reflection of the NNWSJC’s strong community values.

Showjumping in Northern NSW continued to grow throughout 2025, with strong participation across all the Jumping NSW affiliated clubs in the region.

The year began with plenty of rain, making it difficult for early events to go ahead, but conditions improved toward the end of the season, allowing clubs to finish the year on a high note.

A number of championship events were successfully hosted across the region, including by Valley & Rivers Showjumping, Tweed District Showjumping Club, and Coffs Coast Jump Club, who launched their calendar with a well-supported ribbon day in October.

Valley & Rivers Showjumping hosted a round of the Amateur Series, while the Coffs Harbour Show Society also held an Amateur Series event, giving riders more opportunities to compete and earn valuable series points. Tweed District Showjumping Club continued to support rider development with their Rising Rounds events and regular coaching programs throughout the year. Coffs Coast Jump Club also offered valuable training opportunities with Jamie Coman, providing riders with access to elite-level coaching.

Valley & Rivers Showjumping also successfully ran the Grafton Agricultural Show jumping program for the region and supported several other events with gear and officials. They ran their best championship event to date, with perfect weather and brilliant rounds of showjumping on display.

The Thoroughbred Sport Horse events were also well supported and strongly participated in throughout the year, highlighting the depth and enthusiasm within the Northern NSW showjumping community.

It’s been a busy and rewarding year for all our Northern NSW clubs — a true reflection of the teamwork, passion, and dedication that keeps our sport thriving.

In Closing

From championship victories to upcoming opportunities, it’s been an inspiring time for NSW jumping. Our riders continue to make us proud on the national stage, and the months ahead promise even more exciting competition and community connection.

Whether you’re a competitor, owner, official, volunteer, or enthusiastic spectator — thank you for being part of the NSW jumping family. We look forward to seeing everyone at the NSW Titles and the Summer Classic as we close out another exceptional year of show jumping in New South Wales.
